Gion Suetomo was founded in 2009 by its owner, Hisashi Suetomo, who trained for many years at the famed Michelin-star restaurant “Gion Maruyama.”
It is said that water is the bedrock of Kyoto’s cuisine, and so the very first act in the founding of Suetomo was that of digging a well. The water from this well, known as “the water of Yasaka,” is the foundation of Suetomo’s cuisine and its delicious flavors. The restaurant itself was designed by the owner and instantly fills guests with a sense of Kyoto’s culture.
Having been listed in the Michelin Guide as one Michelin-star, Gion Suetomo provides cuisine full of Kyoto’s sense of beauty and seasons. Additionally, it stands in plain view of the Tower of Yasaka, a prime location in front of Gion Kennin-ji temple’s south gate.
Counter seating and private rooms with tables in tatami rooms are both available, and guests with children are welcome.
All types of guests and occasions, from families enjoying a vacation in Kyoto, to couples celebrating anniversaries, are accommodated.
