Michelin 2-Star Japanese restaurant Roan Kikunoi, the sister restaurant of Michelin 3-Star Kikunoi Honten, was founded approximately 100 years ago. It was named after the Zen saying “Meirekireki rododo (to be clear and transparent)”, a wish for the restaurant to take simple and sincere approach to cuisine without being restrained by tradition.
Roan Kikunoi is a restaurant where customers can casually enjoy Japanese cuisine without being stifled by formality. Private rooms and counter seating, as well as an open tatami room with seats overlooking the counter where guests can enjoy the sight of their course being prepared, are all available. Vegetables are locally sourced in Kyoto from contracted farmers and the freshest fish and delicious seafood is procured every morning from the market. Kikunoi is highly selective with its cuisine and aims to provide “powerful dishes made with devotion and skill”.
Despite its convenient location in the heart of Kyoto of just a minute’s walk from Kawaramachi Station, once inside the restaurant you will be transported away from the clamor of the city into Roan Kikunoi’s calm and serene atmosphere where you are sure to comfortably enjoy its delicious cuisine.
