3 Michelin-starred Kikunoi has been highly influential in the culinary world of Japan over the years and has also been actively promoting Japanese food culture throughout the globe.
Kikunoi has now opened a brand new “Meat Kaiseki” restaurant named Unshuu in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto, which has not been open to the general public until now.
This new meat cuisine restaurant occupies the 2nd floor of Kikunoi’s building (with Kikunoi’s sushi restaurant located on the 1st floor) and features a 10-seat counter.
The space was crafted by Nakamura Sotoji Komuten, the building company renowned for its sukiya architecture and also famous for their work on the Nelson Rockefeller home in New York, the tea room at Ise Jingu, Rurikoin, and the tea room at the Kyoto International Conference Center.
The interior of this restaurant boasts a massive single-piece wood counter, vintage Danish chairs, and a custom-built wine cellar, all set within a truly peaceful and serene atmosphere.
Guests are seated on these plush and comfortable chairs alongside the spacious counter from where they can watch and enjoy the captivating process of skilled chefs meticulously preparing and grilling the meat over charcoal.
The menu features an exciting new meat kaiseki course which focuses on rare cuts of carefully-selected Wagyu, and combines Kikunoi’s historic expertise in Japanese cuisine together with new innovative concepts.
The owner of Kikunoi, Mr. Murata explains that this restaurant, which started off as a exclusive “not-open-to-the-public” venture, was made for true food enthusiasts who want to focus on their dining experience and enjoy their meals at their pace.
Kikunoi Unshuu offers a truly exceptional experience for those who truly love food and the Japanese food culture.
