Open for business as an “Ochaya” since the last days of the Edo Period of the mid-1800s, Tsudaro relocated to its current location at Hanamikoji-dori, Gion in the early 1900s.
As a former “Ochaya”, it is equipped with spacious rooms where Maiko and Geiko used to entertain guests, a beautiful traditional garden in the center of the premise and a majestic solid counter made of wood from a 500 year-old tree on the first floor. It is furnished with all types of luxurious architectural materials due to its high-end clientele back in its “Ochaya” days, from which modern-day guests can feel the true culture and tradition of Gion.
The plateware used to serve Tsudaro’s dishes are those which have been personally endorsed by the Owner of Tsudaro and also Kiyomizu Sannenzaka Museum, Masayuki Murata and other masterpieces created by Living National Treasure craftsmen. Please experience and feel Kyoto Gion’s culture through all of your five senses.
